Jeanne Lai (b. 2001, Taipei) is a Taiwanese artist based in the Netherlands. Her practice explores the intricate and entangled relationship between the self and wildness.
“I am far more fascinated by animals than by humans, yet at the same time, I see traces of one within the other.”
Her work investigates the complex and paradoxical relationships between humans, animals, and nature. Through shifting perspectives of seeing, she examines the tensions between wildness and socialization, questioning the boundaries between self and other, control and submission.
She works with materials including wood, metal, and mirrored surfaces to create different modes of perception, blurring the boundaries between human and animal, natural and artificial, and viewer and artwork.
